Ok, since I'm too lazy to provide anything more than an open directory of last weekend's photos from Palm Springs, here at least is a fairly large thumbnail to give you a sample of how crazy the plants were.
Lesson learned last weekend: if you hike a half mile through the desert to get to a canyon, even if that canyon is shaded and has a stream that you can wade in, you still have to walk that half mile back through the 115 degree desert to your car, which by the way is no longer in the shade.
