At my day job we just launched a web standards based site:
http://www.advancingbiosurgery.com/
Only the "U.S.A." site is up, Canada will be moving over to the new template next, followed by Europe.
Interesting story about how I got the content manager to learn HTML. When the designer handed over the photoshop comps he had a list of points he wanted me to keep in mind, one of which was preserving his typography and color themes in the 3 different product templates. I addressed each of his points, but when it came to the typography I said that I would write the most forceful stylesheet possible, but in the end the quality of the typography would come down to the quality of the HTML, and whether or not it was hand-coded.
Some side notes at this point. My team is in Los Angeles, while the content manager and designer are in another branch of the company up in San Francisco. The site is run on this clunky system called TeamSite which thankfully allows you to switch off the WYSIWYG and type in your own HTML.
Later in the production process the content manager got her TeamSite training. They told her, "just copy and paste your content from MS Word into our WYSIWYG." She talked to the designer who insisted that she call me because I had mentioned something about the typography being dependant on how TeamSite was used. I was thrilled when I got the call and learned that the designer of all people had made my argument for web standards, without even knowing what they are himself.
Now I'm hoping my new friend the american content manager succeeds in persuading her canadian counterpart to properly format their html. Save the worrying about Europe for later.
